Soil Science
History
The Post-Graduation in Soil Science has been offered by the Department of Soil Science from UFLA since 1976, at Masters Level, and from 1994 in Doctorate level. The program maintains a high classifying evaluation grade by CAPES-MEC. Since its inception, there were defended by March 2008: 286 Thesis (Master´s Degree) and 85 Theses (Doctor’s Degree) in different lines of research of the Department.
The Department of Soil Science has large building area, with 16 laboratories that serve the areas of Mineralogy and Soil Chemistry, Genesis, Soil Morphology and Survey and Classification, Physics and Soil Conservation, Soil Microbiology, Soil Fertility, Plant Nutrition and Organic Soil Matter. Added to these sectors, there are rooms for graduate students, theaters, greenhouses etc. The Department serves through the analysis sector, farmers from different parts of the country, research institutions and extension agencies.
Several research projects already completed have contributed decisively to the development of techniques for the rational use and management of soils in nearly all Brazilian states. To this end, the course has had the support of institutions such as CAPES, CNPq, FINEP and FAPEMIG, besides the close partnership with EPAMIG, EMBRAPA, CEMIG and FAEP.
